Finalist EU Project of the Year Award

European University of The Atlantic - Spain

Summary

In Europe around 30% of newly qualified teacher leave the profession within 1-5 years.  Previous researches showed the difficulty for the transition from initial training to teaching in schools, demonstrated by a problematic teacher attrition in our European space (Federicova, 2020).

“Digital Academy in teaching practice for a seamless transition from pre-service to in-service” (DigitalTA) is a European Teacher Academy, granted in 2022.

The project (2022-2025) aims to improve the practical training of student teachers and newly qualified teachers in EU countries, facilitating the transition of teachers from studies to work, with the support of digital media. To achieve this objective, based on the definition of a European approach for this transition period, the project team started to work on the definition of a common framework for teacher induction, developing a digital platform to host a teachers’ learning community.  The platform is based on reflective practice, and bring together providers of initial teacher education (pre-service education) and teachers continuing professional development institutions (in-service education).

Project will end in May 2025 and impacts are particularly unexpected, showing the relevance of the developed tool: 1174 users in Europe, 271 educational institutions participating during pilot phase, 9 published papers, 11 international conferences and 50 local events developed, 17316 participants in our activities.

Led by the European University of The Atlantic (UNEATLANTICO, Santander, Spain), this European project has scientific and technological teams from Spain (FUNIBER), Poland (Jan Kochanowski University), Belgium (University Antwerp Plantijn), Ireland (University of Limerick), and Czech Republic (Palacky University Olomouc).  It also has the inclusion in the work team of the continuing training institutes from Poland (Świętokrzyskie Centrum Doskonalenia Nauczycieli -ŚCDN-) and Spain (the Center for Teacher Training and Educational Innovation of Segovia -CFIE), as well as primary and secondary European school, as well as associated institutions such as the Association for Teacher Education in Europe (ATEE), the Institute of Education Sciences of the University of Barcelona, the Education and Training Council of Ireland (ETBI), Cantabria Educational Ministry, among others.
