Summary

Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) is committed to nurturing future talents equipped with entrepreneurial knowledge and innovative skills. By integrating resources across departments and designing institutionalized curricula, the university has built a comprehensive innovation and entrepreneurship education ecosystem. Each year, CYCU offers over 80 courses covering topics such as creative ideation, design thinking, AI applications, and sustainable entrepreneurship. In the past two years, these courses have drawn more than 3,000 student enrollments, effectively enhancing students' problem-solving, teamwork, and market validation abilities. In alignment with the Ministry of Education’s initiative to cultivate “Three Innovation” talents, CYCU has established a dedicated unit to manage teaching quality and support faculty development. The university has also formed an “Entrepreneurship Mentorship Network,” comprising entrepreneurs, business consultants, and technical experts from both inside and outside the university. This network has delivered over 400 entrepreneurship coaching sessions and workshops, helping student teams design business models and implement technical solutions. Through simulated startup competitions and real-world Demo Days, students are given a stage to validate their entrepreneurial ideas from scratch. Starting in 2025, CYCU will launch the “AI University” co-learning initiative, inviting companies to join students in acquiring AI skills. Centered around real-world digital transformation challenges faced by businesses, the 18-week program will generate practical solutions while addressing talent shortages and accelerating enterprise innovation. Looking ahead, CYCU will continue to deepen its entrepreneurship education under the “AI + SDGs” framework, strengthening interdisciplinary learning environments, expanding international exchange opportunities, and enhancing access to entrepreneurial resources. The goal is not only to equip students with knowledge but also to empower them to create meaningful change—paving the way for CYCU to become a leading hub for innovation and entrepreneurship talent in Asia.

Chung Yuan Christian University’s Quantum Information Center has launched an in-depth collaboration with the United Nations-supported international organization, the Social Impact Investment Foundation. Together, they are promoting interdisciplinary education that integrates quantum computing with the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to cultivate future youth talents with a global perspective and strong technological literacy.

As the first university in Taiwan to launch the “AI University Internship Program,” Chung Yuan Christian University has been actively collaborating with industry partners to cultivate applied AI talent. This initiative not only reflects the university’s innovation and practical focus in technology education but also successfully fosters strong connections between academia and industry, creating a co-creation platform for AI with real-world impact.

By integrating the university’s teaching resources with various activities, camps, and competitions, Chung Yuan Christian University has developed a modular curriculum system for innovation and entrepreneurship.

The newly established startup incubation space provides students with hands-on opportunities and hosts startups on campus. It includes 20 offices, 3 meeting rooms, and 2 maker classrooms equipped with 3D printers, laser cutters, AR/VR devices, live streaming equipment, IoT development kits, and hand tool sets.

The startup "Mbran Filtra," nurtured by the university, was honored with a CES Innovation Award for developing the “world’s smallest filter cartridge.” It also received the prestigious "HS4A" (Human Security for All) award—one of only seven recipients worldwide—marking the first and only time a Taiwanese startup has earned this recognition.

Ranked as the top private university in Taiwan in the 2025 “Most Favored University Graduates by Employers” list, Chung Yuan Christian University earned this distinction by offering curricula closely aligned with industry needs, with a strong focus on social engagement and practical application of knowledge. In recent years, the university has actively developed AI-related courses while also addressing the growing trend of net-zero transformation. It emphasizes integrating AI applications with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aiming to equip students with the ability to harness technology for the benefit of society—rather than be overwhelmed by emerging technologies. 詢問 ChatGPT

LEARNINGS

Lessons learned

Chung Yuan Christian University (CYCU) has come to deeply understand through its journey in promoting innovation and entrepreneurship education that such learning should begin by inspiring students’ potential and creative thinking. By combining modular courses with hands-on environments, students are guided from “knowledge acquisition” to “actionable practice.”

Educational Transformation: From Sparking Creativity to Entrepreneurial Practice
CYCU emphasizes that the starting point of entrepreneurship education lies in unlocking student potential. Through interdisciplinary courses, maker spaces, and presentation platforms, students are encouraged to turn their creativity into practical skills for problem-solving and innovation.

Organizational Integration: Cross-Department Collaboration for Maximized Resources
By integrating resources across university departments, CYCU has built a one-stop entrepreneurial support system that offers stage-specific mentoring along with technical, legal, financial, and international networking support.

Continuous Iteration: Learning from Failure and Market Feedback
By participating in international exhibitions, students gain real-world experience, refining their pitches and business models based on actual market feedback, thus deepening their entrepreneurial competence.

Through this journey, CYCU has come to believe that the essence of entrepreneurship education lies in cultivating students’ ability to navigate change, iterate continuously, and embrace experimentation. CYCU remains committed to advancing globally minded innovation and entrepreneurship education, nurturing future-ready, hands-on talent.

FUTURE PLANS

What's coming?

To address the profound transformations brought about by artificial intelligence on societal structures and industrial operations, Chung Yuan Christian University has positioned its “AI University Industry-Academia Co-Creation Initiative” as a flagship program for future innovation and entrepreneurship education. The initiative is centered around three major strategic upgrades aimed at strengthening educational practice, industry collaboration, and societal impact.

Expanding AI Co-Creation Spaces and Corporate Participation
Launched as a pilot in 2025, the program brought together four companies and 20 students to co-develop AI-driven solutions. Moving forward, it will expand both the number and scale of participating businesses, initiating at least 10 industry application projects annually. These projects will focus on key areas such as smart manufacturing, food technology, energy engineering, and ESG.

Building a Cross-Disciplinary AI Talent Development Framework
The curriculum will integrate modules in generative AI, large language models (LLMs), data science, and human-machine collaboration. Combined with micro-courses like “AI × Design” and “AI × ESG,” a cross-college teaching platform will be developed. This will empower students to tackle social issues with innovative thinking, preparing them to become AI professionals equipped with both technical expertise and ethical judgment.

Creating a Collaborative AI Industry Base
An AI co-creation lab will be established to connect students with startup mentors, patented technologies, and entrepreneurial resources. This space will support students in transitioning from hands-on practice to internships and eventually startups, accelerating the application of technologies and the creation of real-world value.

Chung Yuan Christian University’s forward-looking “AI University” initiative aims not only to bridge the technical gap between education and industry but also to redefine the role of university students in the age of intelligence. Students are no longer just learners—they are co-creators tackling real-world challenges. Through enterprise-led projects, practical training, and market-oriented learning, the program will cultivate AI talent with strong technical skills, interdisciplinary communication abilities, and a sense of social responsibility. In doing so, it will help drive regional industry transformation, amplify the university’s positive societal impact, and fulfill the public and sustainable mission of higher education.
